In 1940, Dr. Abraham Erskine developed a Super-Soldier Serum as part of a top-secret experiment called Operation Rebirth. Steve Rogers, a scrawny volunteer from New York, was given the serum and was miraculously transformed into his peak physical form. A Nazi spy then killed Erskine before anyone could react. Because he was so concerned that the serum would be stolen, Erskine had never written it down, and thus the secret died with him. Rogers donned a patriotic uniform and became Captain America.
