Character/DC
of 2999; Superman's foe
Muto first appeared in Superman #136 (1998-07), published by DC. 2 appearances are indexed across 1 series.
Some time in the second half of the 30th century, Superman XVIII destroyed a comet with strange radioactive properties that was headed toward Earth. Superman failed to notice that the comet's destruction opened a warp door to another dimension. Two scientists and their infant son were on a scientific vessel assigned to track and study the comet. The warp door pulled the vessel through to a dimension where biological life was extinct. Only robots existed there, and they considered the humans curiosities for experimentation. The product of their experiments on the infant resulted in Muto. The robots gave him their intellect, telekinetic and transdimensional powers, and total intolerance of biological life forms. Muto saw humans as nothing more than potential pets and servants, which he knew Superman XIX and the other heroes would oppose, and that is why he decided they must all be eliminated.
