Bruce Wayne first appeared in Detective Comics #27 (1939-05), published by DC. 16,946 appearances are indexed across 60 series.
One fateful night in an alley in Gotham City, Thomas and Martha Wayne were murdered by a mugger in front of their young son, Bruce. On the graves of his parents, Bruce swore to avenge their deaths. After many years of training, Bruce was contemplating how best to strike fear into the hearts of criminals. Suddenly, a bat flew through his window. He took it as an omen. Bruce Wayne donned a costume and soon became known as the Batman. Over the course of his career, Batman took a number of teenagers as his sidekick Robin (Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne). He has been romantically linked to Julie Madison, Linda Page, Vicki Vale, Kathy Kane (Batwoman), Talia al Ghul, Silver St. Cloud, Selina Kyle (Catwoman), and Natalia Knight (Nocturna), among others. The Batman of Earth-Two was the legal guardian of Dick Grayson (Robin), the husband of Selina Kyle (Catwoman), and the father of Helena Wayne (Huntress). He was killed by a criminal named Bill Jensen. Instead of adopting the identity of Batman, Bruce Wayne of Earth-32 [Elseworlds] became a member of the Green Lantern Corps. First appearance in Earth -22 in Dark Days: The Casting (DC, 2017 series) #1. The Bruce Wayne of Earth -52 in DC's Dark Multiverse is a Batman known as the Red Death. He is a member of Barbatos' Dark Knights, and absorbed the Flash of his world and his powers using a combination of his Batmobile and the Cosmic Treadmill, becoming the fastest man alive on his Earth. He proceeds to murder his rogue's gallery despite the dismay he hears from the spirit of Barry Allen's consciousness. Bruce Wayne is the secret identity of the Merciless, the Batman of Earth -12 in DC's Dark Multiverse. He wore Ares' helmet and gained the powers of the Olympian god. Later he joined with the Dark Knights, a team of evil Batmen from different earths. He is an enemy of the Wonder Woman of his world.
