Arthur Douglas was driving through the desert with his wife Yvette and daughter Heather, when his car was suddenly destroyed by Thanos. Arthur and his wife were killed, but his daughter survived. Heather was found by Thanos' father, Mentor, and raised on Saturn's moon, Titan, later becoming Moondragon. Needing a champion to combat the threat from Thanos, Mentor's father Kronos captured Douglas' spirit and placed it in a new, superpowered body. He became Drax the Destroyer, and his sole purpose was to kill Thanos. Moondragon was a candidate to be the Celestial Madonna, but Mantis was chosen instead.
