One fateful night in an alley in Gotham City, Thomas and Martha Wayne were murdered by a mugger in front of their young son, Bruce. On the graves of his parents, Bruce swore to avenge their deaths. After many years of training, Bruce was contemplating how best to strike fear into the hearts of criminals. Suddenly, a bat flew through his window. He took it as an omen. Bruce Wayne donned a costume and soon became known as the Batman. Over the course of his career, Batman took a number of teenagers as his sidekick Robin (Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne). He has been romantically linked to Julie Madison, Linda Page, Vicki Vale, Kathy Kane (Batwoman), Talia al Ghul, Silver St. Cloud, Selina Kyle (Catwoman), and Natalia Knight (Nocturna), among others. Batman's nicknames include "The Caped Crusader", "The Dark Knight", and "The Dark Knight Detective". Together with Robin, they are known as "The Dynamic Duo". The Batman of Earth-Two was the legal guardian of Dick Grayson (Robin), the husband of Selina Kyle (Catwoman), and the father of Helena Wayne (Huntress). He was killed by a criminal named Bill Jensen.
