Born as Alexa Volkoff, Lukin fought as a pilot for the Russian Army during World War II and became known as Night Witch. After the War, she was instrumental in brainwashing James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes to become the Winter Soldier. Many years later, having married Aleksander Lukin, and having taken his name, she was instrumental in his struggles against Captain America and his allies.
