Genevieve Darceneaux was the daughter of an imprisoned jewel thief whom Gambit seduced as a 17-year-old in order to obtain a valuable pendant she had in her possession. Gambit was told by his brother, Henri, that, in order to prove himself to the Thieves Guild, he had to get the pendant for the Guild. Sabretooth, also after Genevieve's pendant, kidnapped Henri and Genevieve, and forced Gambit to choose between them. Gambit (who stole the pendant from Genevieve) threw the pendant to Sabretooth, causing him to drop the ropes holding Henri and Genevieve, and Gambit grabbed Henri's rope... but Genevieve fell to her death.
