The original Sonar, Bito Wladon, was a Modoran sound engineer who learned about sound and engineering in secret to create sound-based technologies which he could use as weapons. When the ruler of Modora, Fando the Mad, wanted to execute Sonar as a threat, he manages to convince Fando that he will help him retain his throne, but once he has earned the despot's trust, he takes over the Modoran military and overthrows Fando. Sonar is commonly a Green Lantern villain. In the New 52 reality, Sonar is a Modoran terrorist who uses sonic bombs as weapons. As the new leader of the Modoran Separatist Army, Sonar has been proving a far better and more ruthless leader than those who preceded him.
