Boss Moroni was a mobster on trial for murder in Gotham City. The Districy Attorney, Harvey Kent, was the prosecutor at the trial. When D.A. Kent produced his evidence, Moroni's two-headed silver dollar found at the murder scene with Moroni's fingerprints on it, an enraged Moroni threw a vial of acid at Kent. The acid struck the left side of D.A. Kent's face, scarring him both physically and mentally. Harvey Kent descended into madness and became the criminal named Two-Face. Two-Face scarred one side of Moroni's two-headed coin, and would flip it to decide whether or not he would commit an act of evil. After a year of committing crimes as Two-Face, Harvey Kent overcame his insanity after he accidentally shot his former fiancée, Gilda. He peacefully surrendered to the authorities. Learning of an experimental plastic surgery, Kent agreed to undergo the procedure. The damage to his face was repaired and he received psychiatric care. Harvey Kent eventually resumed his career as a lawyer.
