Dr. Martin Aaronson was an expert in radiation who worked at a government lab. Following the destruction of the facility during an earthquake, he and his colleagues were altered, acquiring superhuman abilities and becoming known as the Lords of Light and Darkness. They engaged in battle against the X-Men and Spider-Man before being transported into space. There, they underwent another transformation, becoming an energy state that appeared from Earth as a new star.
