Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs was an ordinary man from Omaha, Nebraska. To promote himself as a magician in a local circus, he wrote OZ (the initials of his first two names) in big letters on the side of his hot air balloon. One day, he drifted in his balloon into a magical land, and was mistaken for a great wizard. He was named Oz, the supreme ruler of the kingdom. After Dorothy Gale revealed him to be a fake, Oz became advisor to the land's rightful ruler, Princess Ozma.
