A rocket scientist named Charles Keith was conducting scientific research on a tiny tropical island. When an unexpected tidal wave threatened to engulf the island, Charles Keith and his wife quickly placed their son Tom into an experimental rocket and fired it towards the U.S. coast. Tom's puppy, Rovo, had leapt into the craft, throwing the rocket off course and sending it into outer space. The rocket eventually arrived on the tiny planet Zumoor, where Tom was found and adopted by Chad and Vela Kazzan, who named him Zarl. The planet's lower gravity and the golden energy rays of Zumoor's moon bestowed super-powers upon both Zarl and Rovo. When Zarl became a teenager, the duo adopted the aliases of Mighty Boy and Mighty Dog.
