Principal homme de main du Caïd, Aaron Nicholson se porta volontaire pour subir les traitements du projet de pouvoirs surhumains du Caïd qui faisait appel à l’équipement du défunt Harlan Stillwell. Une fois le processus achevé, Aaron sembla ne pas avoir changé mais il découvrit bientôt la nature de ses nouvelles capacités : son pouvoir consistait à s’adapter à n’importe quelle situation et de développer provisoirement un pouvoir capable d’y faire face. Il se baptisa alors La Réponse.
