Roderick Krupp était un fossoyeur travaillant à Los Angeles. Un jour, il fut attiré par la Tour de l'Ombre [Tower of Shadows], un manoir abandonné, et s'y installa. Un producteur l'engagea pour ses talents de conteur, afin qu'il présente une émission d'horreur en fin de soirée, avec un co-présentateur, Headstone P. Gravely. À cause de son passé, Krupp se surnomma le Fossoyeur. Une fois le programme abandonné, Krupp retourna vivre dans le manoir, où il perdit peu à peu l'esprit. Il fut convaincu que les vivants étaient déjà morts et qu'il devait les enterrer. À un moment donné, le Fossoyeur s’est allié avec l'Équipe de Nuit, commettant des crimes et combattant des super-héros. Son arme de choix est une pelle, faite d’un alliage spécial, assez solide pour résister à l’excavation du béton. [Roderick Krupp was a gravedigger working in Los Angeles. One day, he was attracted to the Tower of Shadows, an abandoned mansion, and settled there. A producer hired him for his storytelling skills, so that he could present a horror show at the end of the evening, with a co-presenter, Headstone P. Gravely. Because of his past, Krupp nicknamed himself the Digger. Once the program was abandoned, Krupp returned to live in the mansion, where he gradually lost his mind. He was convinced that the living were already dead and that he had to bury them. At some point, Digger allied with the Night Shift, committing crimes and fighting superheroes. His weapon of choice is a shovel. The spade is made of a special alloy, strong enough to withstand digging through concrete.]
