Roger Brokeridge, known as Hardball, gained the power to create solid, concussive energy spheres after undergoing the Power Broker enhancement process. Initially driven to crime to support his injured brother, he was recruited into the Initiative, where his unstable loyalties became a defining trait. Hardball secretly sold Initiative secrets to HYDRA, leading to imprisonment in the Negative Zone. Wracked by guilt but still morally conflicted, he later resurfaced as part of the Shadow Initiative, operating in morally gray territory between heroism and self-interest.
