The Human Target
Christopher Chance first appeared in Action Comics #419 (1972-12), published by DC. 106 appearances are indexed across 36 series.
Philip Chance owed money to a loan shark named Amos Sharkey. When he was unable to pay, Sharkey hired a hitman named Dancer to murder him. Young Christopher Chance tried unsuccessfully to defend his father. As he lay dying, Philip told his son to make something of himself. Christopher made a vow to never again let anyone else suffer the indignity and fear that his father had. He spent years studying and training, then he began his own business as a private investigator and bodyguard. Christopher Chance would often impersonate his clients, putting his own life in danger in place of theirs, turning himself into a human target.
