Cefisher started working as an illustrator in the 1920s. He lost both arms during an airstrike in 1944. After learning to paint by mouth he continued with his career. He is best remembered for the character "Oskar", a strip about a cat appearing in the "Frankfurter Illustrierte" till 1962. He was a co-founder of the Vereinigung der mund- und fussmalenden Künstler (Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists of the World).
