Served in the United States Army. Afterwards worked for the Charles E. Cooper Art Studio in Manhattan, New York. Among known clients he did work for included Ford Motor Company, Volkswagen, and Pepsi Cola. Afterwards did illustration for publishers Doubleday, Dell, Bantam House, and Random House. During this time painted covers for Western (Gold Key). Taught art, first at Great Neck High School in Great Neck, New York and then later at Parsons School of Design in Greenwich Village in New York City. Would continue teaching at Syracuse University and eventually becoming a tenured Professor at State University of New York (SUNY). Relocated to Wilmington, North Carolina during the 1990s and became the primary portrait artist for Portraits South.
