F. K. Waechter was a renowned German cartoonist, author, and playwright. Starting 1962, Waechter worked for the satire magazine Pardon, working on the layout and as a cartoonist. He designed the well-known title character for the very first issue, a little devil who smiles as he tips his hat. At Pardon Waechter developed his talent for comic cartoons. Together with Robert Gernhardt and F. W. Bernstein, he designed the regular nonsense page Welt im Spiegel from 1964 onwards. While at Pardon, he co-founded the Neue Frankfurter Schule (New Frankfurt School), a group of eminent comic writers and cartoonists. By 1970, began writing children's books. In 1979 he co-founded Titanic, another satirical magazine. His cartoons featured regularly until 1992, when he began focusing on teaching, writing books, and writing and directing plays.
