Earle Bergey started his career as a staff artist at the Philadelphia Ledger in 1918. In 1927 he replaced Charles J. Coll as the artist on the syndicated daily comic strip Deb Days. During the Great Depression, he start painting covers for pulp magazines. His first cover paintings were for pin-up magazines, such as Pep, Bedtime and Snapp.
