Cayetano "Cat" Garza is a webcomics pioneer. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Texas, Pan-American, where he was exposed to the internet. As early as 1996 he posted samples of his work online in order to avoid the expense of sending hardcopy submission packets to publishers. He started his own website, Magic Inkwell, in 1998 as a way to self-publish with the least expense. His webcomic The Year of the Rat won the 2009 Ignatz Award for Outstanding Online Comic.
