Gordon Davidson Bell was born in Dundee in 1934 and was educated at Clepington Primary School, Morgan Academy in Dundee and then studied art at Duncan of Jordanstone College By 1958 he had started working at DC Thomson's drawing a strip called "Pom-Pom" in The Beano where he also drew "Pup Parade" (1967). For The Dandy he drew "Freddy the Fearless Fly" (1980s); for Sparky: "Spoofer McGraw" (1968-74); for Buzz: "Harum-Scarem" (1973-74), "Sammy's Scribbles" (1973-76) and "The Buzzies and the Fuzzies" (1973-75); for Cracker: "Billy the Kid and Pongo" (1975-76) and "Fiends Beans" (1975-76); for Plug: "Hugh's Zoo" (1977-79) and "First Ada" (1977-79); for Nutty: "Scoopy" (1980-85) and "Doodlebug! (1980-82);for The Topper: "Pearl" (1986), "The Neals on Wheels" and "Kuckoo Komedy" (1986). In addition he was an occasional fill-in artist on strips such as Dennis the Menace, The Bash Street Kids and Roger the Dodger. Outside of comics he worked on automotive magazine Autocar and was a keen motorsport enthusiast. He also drew political cartoons for The Courier/Evening Telegraph under the name Fax.
