Volunteer group of Japanese and non-Japanese translators founded by Masahiro Oshima and Yukio Aki who worked over the years to translate Keiji Nakazawa's Barefoot Gen series. The original incarnation of the project stopped sometime after the English translation of volume four came out. It was then revived in Moscow in 1994 by student Minako Tanabe as "Project Gen in Russia." Three volumes were published in Russian translation before the project moved to Kanazawa, Japan. The remaining seven Russian translated volumes were then completed between 1999-2001. A new Project Gen group was begun in Japan in 2000. An all-new English translation of the first four volumes plus the remaining six took three years to produce. The completed series was then published by Last Gasp.
