Louis Wain was a British artist, illustrator, caricaturist, and cartoonist most famously known for his anthropomorphized cats and kittens with large eyes. Wain's first publication of his cats was with an illustration entitled, "The Kittens' Christmas Party" in The Illustrated London News (George C. Leighton, 1842 series) v88#2488 (December 25, 1886). The Louis Wain Annual featuring his cat drawings began in 1901 and continued until at least 1921. His work began being reprinted worldwide in the 1890s. Wain came to New York in 1907, creating the syndicated comic strip Catville, featuring his signature cats.
